"For
me, perseverance is calling on that intense belief in one's self to rise up and overcome
disappointments, setbacks and perceived failures, when it could be much easier to simply
choose another course. I knew all along that the path I chose was not going to be easy, yet
I was sure that if I could learn from every bump that I stumbled across and improve myself
each time, my eventual victory would be that much sweeter."

"My
primary goal in life is to be a great family man and to be a great father for my kids. This has taken perseverance
because my dad was never around so I didn't have the blueprint on how to be a dad. Being a father and husband has
been the most challenging, yet also the most rewarding part of my life."

"The year I made the Pro Bowl was
a year that tested my perseverance. I tore my knee up in the first game of the season. I was determined to not let my
teammates down and determined to be the same player I was before. I didn't let the situation take control; I
let my mind take control. I believed that I was going to be able to do it and I did it. I made it to the Pro Bowl with
an injury that was supposed to be debilitating.
It made me feel good about my strength of character and my mental toughness. At the end of the day, I felt like I accomplished more than a normal person would have accomplished in that situation."
