State Schools of Character Award

Illinois and Missouri are two of 30 states to give State Schools of Character (SSOC) awards. The awards are prerequisit to CEP's National School of Character Award.

The awards recognize the level of excellence schools and districts have achieved in the Eleven Principles of Effective Character Education. These principles, the National Standard for Character Education, guide the process of creating a culture based on the community’s shared values.

The depth, authenticity and comprehensive nature of the process becomes clear as you review the indicators in the Character Education Quality Standards. The state award is required to advance to the National Schools of Character Award Process.
