Multicultural Competency: Responding to Diversity Issues

Address Diversity & Racist Issues as They Arise

January 29, 2009
Thursday 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Location: Studio at the Colt Safety Building, 8300 Manchester (near Brentwood & Manchester), 63144

Presenters: Jacqueline Masei, founding Artistic Director of Playback Workshop Theater LLC, is recognized for her outstanding work with marginalized communities of teenagers and adults.

You will learn about:

  • Multiculturalism: what it is and what it isn't
  • Sensory and interpretive skills
  • Theatre for Social Change techniques for the classroom
  • Approaches that allow you to accurately read the situation
  • Sculpting and the active exploration of classroom experiences through images
  • Non-violent, de-escalating communication techniques to use in the moment
  • Playback Theatre: recreating real-life situations that you can practice on
  • Collaborative reflection and discussion of practical applications for students
