CHARACTERplus Cadre Certification

Cadre Certification was introduced at the start of the 2009-2010 school year to provide sequential training in effective character education strategies for two years for a School Leadership Team.

The strategies include:

Assessing your school on the Ten Essentials

Reconnecting with your core values

Embedding service learning

Integrating core and encore curriculum

Becoming comfortable with class meetings

Developing cross-age and collaborative structures

The School Leadership Team is charged with implementing a thoughtful plan that engages and builds capacity among their staff. Year One is focused on acquiring key skills. Year Two is focused on integrating them into the learning and life of the school.

Schools are invited into the Cadre Certification Process and must meet these prerequisites:

They are part of CHARACTERplus member districts. (See District Members above)

Their administrative leader has graduated from the Leadership Academy in Character Education

They have a broad-based and enthusiastic commitment from their staff, from which they draw their school leadership team.

They commit to the time and cost of the CHARACTERplus Online Climate Survey ) for two years ($500 each year) to provide pre- and post-implementation measures.

They commit to the schedule of offsite training and the charge to build capacity in these skills and strategies among their staff.
