Presenter: Dr. Marvin Berkowitz, a nationally-recognized leader in the field of Character Education, currently serves as the Sanford N. McDonnell Endowed Professor of Character Education at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and as founder and co-director of the Center for Character and Citizenship. Description: This workshop provides powerful insights into the field of character education and applied moral development. It is worthy as a stand-alone course and as one of three courses required for CHARACTERplus Certification in Character Education. Dr. Berkowitz explores the history, definitions and multi-faceted strategies that shape character development. He demonstrates unity builders and explores the kind of learning that embeds the knowledge of good, the desire to do good, and the ability to act (head, heart and hand). Dr. Berkowitz presents relevant research, the psychological and developmental components of moral education, and specific approaches for elementary, middle and high school.
